The number of first-time homebuyers jumped to 47 percent of all home sales, the highest since 1981, according to the 2009 National Association of Realtors Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.
Among the most commonly cited reasons first-timers use an agent? To understand the homebuying process. Give buyers what they need with more than 50 free homebuying tips now available at NAR's Realtor Content Resource (http://www.houselogic.com/members?nicmp=RCRIM&nichn=editorial&niseg=RMONews1_20100603). Here's just a sample:
1. Know thyself. Buyers must understand the type of home that suits their personality. Do they prefer a new or existing home? A ranch or a multistory home? If they're leaning toward a fixer-upper, are they truly handy, or will they need to budget for contractors?
2. Research before looking. Buyers should list the features they most want in a home and indicate which are necessities and which are extras. They also can identify three to four neighborhoods they'd like to live in based on commute time, schools, recreation, crime, and price. Then buyers can go to Florida Living Network (http://fl.living.net) or Realtor.com (http://www.realtor.com) to get a feel for the homes available in their price range in their favorite neighborhoods. Finally, they can use the search results to prioritize their wants and needs – adding in and weeding out properties they'd like to view.
Those are just two of the more than 50 homebuying tips on finding the right home loan, improving your credit, understanding real estate representation, and keeping a home purchase on track in the June "Get Ready to Own" bundle now available at the Realtor Content Resource – an exclusive NAR member benefit that entitles Realtor members to download free homeownership content in your consumer website, blog, or e-newsletter. The Realtor Content Resource is a part of HouseLogic (http://www.houselogic.com/), NAR's consumer website geared to helping homeowners make smart decisions to maintain, protect, and increase the value of their home.
